The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Association mainly focuses on the inclusion of researchers from COST member countries in international science and technology networks called COST Actions. As COST does not provide research support, it makes significant contributions to scientists' integration to international project groups with its network opportunities. COST has 41 members and Türkiye is among the founding members.
In line with the 2022 participation statistics presented by the COST Association, Türkiye has achieved a significant participation rate by participating in 99% of all ongoing Actions. With 267 Actions participated in the level of Management Committee, Türkiye managed to become the 3rd country with the highest participation in COST. While reaching a significant number of researchers with 3,084 members in Working Groups, Türkiye became the 5th most successful country in this field with 1,113 individual participation in COST network activities. With approximately 1.5 Million Euros on the budget transferred in 2022, Türkiye has managed to become the 4th country with the most budget transferred among 41 COST member countries. Our country has also performed very successfully in terms of gender distribution and participation of young researchers. Türkiye took the first place with 52.8%, by catching data well above the COST average of 35% in the participation of young researchers in COST Actions. In the statistics of participation of female researchers, with a participation rate of 55%, Türkiye managed to show a significant rate above the average of COST, which is 48% in terms of gender distribution.
