2224-D - Grant Program for Participation in Scientific Education Activities Abroad

Successful students continuing their high school or undergraduate education are supported to participate in short-term scientific education activities such as internships and summer/winter schools abroad, in order to expand their social networks, get to know new cultures, develop their professional and technical skills, shape their careers, gain the ability to apply the knowledge they have acquired in the fields they have been educated, and concentrate their skills on certain subjects within the scope of the program.

Scope of the Support

Travel expense, participation fee and monthly support payment are provided for the students who want to participate in scientific education activities abroad.

Support to be given to people who will participate in scientific training events held abroad.

The amount of support to be given to individuals who will participate in scientific education activities organized abroad is determined by the BİDEB Group Executive Board (GYK). The support period is limited to the duration of the education, provided that it does not exceed 2 months. The support amount is 62 U.S. dollars per day.

Terms of Application
  1. Applicants must be either high school or undergraduate student in Türkiye,
     
  2. At least one of the following conditions must be met:
    • To be supported within the scope of 2248-Mentoring Program within the application dates,
    • To be ranked among 25,000 students in the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) and meeting one of the following sub-criterias;
      • To complete successfully either 2209-A - Research Project Support Program for Undergraduate Students or 2209-B - Industry Oriented Research Project Support Program for Undergraduate Students,
      • To be finalist in the 2242-University Students Research Project Competitions,
      • To be entitled to apply for the second stage within the scope of the 1512 Entrepreneurship Support Program (BIGG),
      • To be scholar in 2247 - C STAR-Intern Researcher Scholarship Program
      • To be supported in 2224-A Grant Program for Participation in Scientific Meetings Abroad
  3. As of the date of application, one of the following foreign language conditions must be provided in the language:
    • To score at least 60 from one of the YDS, e-YDS, YÖKDİL, TIPDİL exams in the last 5 years as of the application year or an equivalent score from one of the foreign language exams accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM in the last 2 years,
    • To be a student in an undergraduate program in Türkiye in the official language of the scientific event to be attended abroad (the program must provide 100% foreign language education).
  4. To certify that as of the first day of the application, to be accepted to a summer/winter school or internship program in an institution/organization that provides one of the following rankings within the last 5 years,
    • The top 250 universities in the rankings of THE (Times Higher Education) or QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings,
    • The first 2500 companies that spend the most on Research&Development in the world, published by the European Commission Joint Research Center (JRC),
    • The first 250 institutions in the health - higher education - public - private sub-fields in the Scimago institution rankings,
    • Successful start-up and unicorn company with the most investment
      • List of “Unicorn” companies, published by CBInsights, with a valuation of US$ 1 billion and above from the venture level
      • According to Crunchbase and CBInsights databases, the first 1000 companies that were established in the last 5 years and received the most investment in the last 5 years
  5. To be not supported from 2224-D Program before.
     
  6. To be have current student status during the application period (Special status, passive students, School Of Foreign Languages students cannot apply to this program).

When should I apply for the program at the latest?

According to call text of the 2224-D Participation in Scientific Education Activities Abroad Programme: “7.1. The program is open for applications 365 days a year.” According to the article, candidates who meet all application requirements for the program can apply at any time. Moreover, in the call text “6.1. The scholarship holder is obliged to start his/her scholarship by uploading the necessary documents to the BİDEB Application and Monitoring System within 12 months from the announcement of the support decision. In accordance with the article, the candidate who meets all application conditions must start the overseas activity for which he/she applied within 12 months after the support decision. In this context, it is important for candidates who want to participate in activities such as internships and summer/winter schools organized abroad to choose the date to apply by taking these statements into consideration.

Can Msc. and Phd. students apply to the program?

In the program call text: “3.1.1. As stated in the article "Being a high school or undergraduate student in Türkiye", within the scope of the program, scholarships are given to students who continue their high school or undergraduate education.

How can I apply for the program?

Applications for the program are received online at tybs.tubitak.gov.tr

When are the application results announced?

Although scientific evaluations are carried out periodically according to the operation of the program, the evaluation process is carried out as quickly as possible.

What is the amount of support to be given to people who will participate in scientific education events held abroad?

The monthly scholarship amount 1,900 USD. The scholarship period is limited to the duration of education, provided that it does not exceed 2 months. The monthly scholarship amount is calculated based on the education period, assuming 1 month is 30 days.

What documents need to be submitted after the event?

In the program call text, “5.4. After the event; In accordance with the article "After the monitoring documents are uploaded to the system and the relevant documents are found appropriate, the support process of the person is finalized", the evaluation report for scholars within the scope of the 2224-D Participation in Scientific Education Activities Abroad Support Program are submitted after the end of the event. It must then be sent to bideb2224d@tubitak.gov.tr within 30 days at the latest.
