TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, who chairs the Governing Council of the United Nations Technology Bank (UNTB) for LDCs, met with Ms. Rabab Fatima, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), at the TÜBİTAK Gebze campus prior to the 2024 Mid-Term Council Meeting of the UNTB.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Director of the UN Technology Bank, Deodat Maharaj, H.E. Fatima expressed her gratitude to our country for its financial and administrative contributions to the Technology Bank. The meeting also included discussions on the progress of joint projects currently being conducted by the UNTB and TÜBİTAK, as well as the necessary actions to secure new resources.
At the Technology Bank Governing Council Meeting, chaired by Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, the activities of the UNTB for the first half of 2024 were reviewed, and preparations and work related to the UNTB's 2025-2027 Strategic Plan were discussed.
On July 26, 2024, LDC representatives who were in Türkiye for the “Annual Meeting of National Focal Points of LDCs,” organized by the UNTB and UN-OHRLLS, visited the TÜBİTAK Gebze Campus.
The meeting addressed activities that could be conducted in line with the needs of LDCs for sustainable development. Information about the scientific and technological activities carried out by our centers and institutes was shared with the participants.
TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal gave a presentation where he shared his proposals for solutions to global challenges. In the presentation, Mandal emphasized that LDCs, like the rest of the world, need Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) efforts to solve global issues. He highlighted that our institution is open to supporting LDCs through technologies and work developed by our institution. Prof. Mandal expressed a positive outlook on cooperation and technology transfer with LDCs, emphasizing the importance of co-development and achieving success together for global technological development.
After the presentations, visits were made to the laboratories at TÜBİTAK Institutes and Centers that align with the interests of the LDCs. TÜBİTAK researchers provided the LDC representatives with information about the technologies developed and R&D activities conducted by TÜBİTAK.
