TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences) was founded in Italy in 1983. As a result of an agreement signed between TWAS and UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1991, TWAS became a "program unit" of UNESCO within the framework of Article 63 of the United Nations Charter; UNESCO assumed the institutional and financial responsibility of the Academy.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on bilateral cooperation and joint calls was signed between TÜBİTAK and TWAS on 15.02.2022. Within the scope of the MoU, two different programs have been designed for doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers. In both programs, TWAS covers the round-trip travel costs and visa processing costs, while TÜBİTAK covers the monthly stipend of the scholar, which will cover the accommodation and living expenses of the scholar.
The first joint call between our organization and TWAS was opened on 15.09.2022, and announcements regarding the next calls are regularly published on the official website of TÜBİTAK.
