TWAS (Academy of Sciences for the Developing World) was founded in Italy in 1983As a result of an agreement signed between TWAS and UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1991, TWAS became a “program unit” of UNESCO under Article 63 of the Charter of the United Nations and UNESCO assumed the institutional and financial responsibility of the Academy.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on bilateral cooperation and the implementation of joint calls was signed between TÜBİTAK and TWAS, on 15.02.2022. Within the scope of the said MoU, two different programs were designed for doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers. In both designed programs, TWAS covers the round-trip travel expenses and visa procedures, while TÜBİTAK covers the monthly scholarship of the scholarship holder, which will cover accommodation and living expenses.

The first joint call between TÜBİTAK and TWAS; was opened on 15.09.2022 and announcements regarding subsequent calls are published regularly on TÜBİTAK’s official website.
