The Long-Term Joint EU–AU Research and Innovation Partnership on Sustainable Energy (LEAP-SE), co-funded by the European Commission (EC) under Horizon Europe, aims to build a long-term Europe–Africa collaboration in research and innovation (R&I) on sustainable energy through the funded projects.
The supported projects will focus on areas such as developing energy technologies tailored to the African continent, integrating renewable energy sources, and strengthening smart grids through digital innovation. The initiative also seeks to deliver energy solutions that address societal needs, promote economic and environmental sustainability, and provide long-term energy scenarios for policymakers. An international panel of experts will evaluate project proposals submitted under this call, and those selected for funding will receive support from the national funding agencies of the countries in which the project partners are based.
Within this framework, the thematic areas of the call to be launched by the LEAP-SE Partnership are as follows:
Assessment of Renewable Energy Sources and integration of RES in sustainable energy scenarios,
End‐of‐life and second‐life management and environmental impact of RE components,
Smart stand-alone systems (SAS),
Smart grids (different scales) for off-grid applications,
Processes and appliances for productive uses (PRODUSE),
Innovative solutions for priority domestic uses (clean cooking and cold chain),
Production and use for green hydrogen.

Deadline for the-signature (pre-proposal): 16 February 2026 (23:59, UTC+3)
Deadline for the second stage of international proposal submission: 24 June 2026 (17:00, UTC+3) (Projects that have successfully passed first stage are invited to second stage.)
The deadline for the second stage national application, to be carried out through TÜBİTAK PBS for projects with positive results in the international evaluation of the second stage, will be announced by TÜBİTAK to the relevant parties later.
