AGROECOLOGY
The call titled "Integrating environmental, economic, and eocial perspectives in assessing the performance of agroecology: Value chain and policy implications" under the AGROECOLOGY Partnership is now open.

The European Partnership on Accelerating Farming Systems Transition – Agroecology Living Labs and Research Infrastructure (AGROECOLOGY) aims to establish and support a network of living labs and research infrastructures across Europe to accelerate the transition to agroecology. The partnership will provide long-term, location-specific, multi-stakeholder, real-life experimental spaces. It will support farmers in understanding and implementing agroecological practices at the required scale to achieve positive economic, environmental, and social impacts.

By 2030, the ecosystem around agroecology will be better connected at the EU level. Knowledge on agroecological processes will increase adoption by farmers and the environment, improving the social performance of agriculture.

The target audience and beneficiaries of this project, which is based on Living Labs and Research Infrastructures, include public institutions in agriculture, research organizations, research infrastructures, regional and local governments, living labs, and farmers. Agroecology is a holistic approach that aims to positively contribute to healthier ecosystems and biodiversity while reducing input costs and achieving long-term productivity without compromising agricultural capacity.

Agroecology seeks to create economically viable farming practices; biodiversity, climate, and environment-friendly agriculture; and circular and sustainable farming value chains. It aims to contribute to resilient, productive, and site-sensitive agriculture, ensuring EU food security.

This call brings together 72 partners from 26 different countries, including TÜBİTAK from Türkiye. It aims to support a farming sector capable of addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, food security and sovereignty, and environmental goals while offering profitable and attractive opportunities for farmers.

The call topics are outlined below:

Topic 1:  Determine and assess benefits/impacts and trade-offs of agroecology, and identify best practices

  • Proposals submitted to this Topic are expected to choose at least one of the following themes:

  • Methods and procedures to tackle trade-offs in agroecological production

  • Scenario analysis to identify and support the most suitable options to accelerate the adoption of the identified best practices at different spatial and temporal scales

Topic 2:  Transform value chains, business models and policies to facilitate the transition to agroecology

Proposals submitted to this Topic are expected to choose at least one of the following themes:

  • Transformation and development of new business models in the value chains to facilitate the agroecological transition

  • Coordination among actors, social innovations and policies to enhance the agroecological transition

Joint project proposals to be prepared within the scope of the call are required to comply with the international call application conditions. The international consortium that will present the project must consist of three different partners who will receive funding from at least three different countries participating in the call. Each partner will be supported by their country's funding agency. Please click here for detailed information.

In addition to international project applications to be submitted to the call secretariat, it is also mandatory for researchers from Türkiye to take part in the projects to submit a national project application to TÜBİTAK (https://uidb-pbs.tubitak.gov.tr). Project proposals to be submitted from our country within the scope of this call will be supported within the scope of TÜBİTAK 1071 Support Programme for Increasing the Capacity to Benefit from International Research Funds and Participation in International R&D Collaborations. Since the application may be returned without being evaluated in case of non-compliance with the application rules, the national application rules have been given below and must be examined in detail before applying.
