The special issue of the Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences on "Tertiary Geological Evolution of the Western Black Sea Region" was published in January 2020. In this special issue edited by Aral Okay (İstanbul Technical University, İstanbul, Turkey), Mike Simmons (Halliburton Landmark, Milton Park, UK) and Gabor Tari (OMV Group, Vienna, Austria), a total of eight studies examining the Tertiary geological evolution of the Black Sea and its surroundings, which is one of the most important sedimentary basins in the world dating back to eighty million years ago, are included.
The research results/findings in the special issue, due to the fact that the Black Sea has an important resource in terms of hydrocarbons and Tertiary geology examines the periods when oil/natural gas started to form, stated that a good knowledge and understanding of the Tertiary geology of the Black Sea and its surroundings is important in many aspects.
